| According to statistics published today by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, total deposits with authorized institutions declined by 0.8% in May 2008. With across-the-board decreases in demand, savings and time deposits, Hong Kong dollar deposits contracted by 1.6% during the month. |

Hong Kong's CPI Gains 5.7% in May

| As for miscellaneous services, the Composite CPI rose by 1.2% over a year earlier but the CPI(A) fell by 0.7%. |

| The Census and Statistics Department released today (June 20) the Consumer Price Index figures for May 2008. According to the Composite CPI, overall consumer prices rose by 5.7% in May 2008 over a year earlier. |

Hong Kong Composite Interest Rate Falls to 0.75%

| The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today the composite interest rate at the end of May 2008. |
|
| The composite interest rate, which reflects the average cost of funds of banks, fell slightly by 4 basis points to 0.75% at the end of May 2008, from 0.79% at the end of April 2008 . This followed a decrease of 19 basis points in April 2008. The mild drop in the composite interest rate in May 2008 reflected downward adjustments of medium-term interbank rates, while savings deposit rates were unchanged. |

Hong Kong's Unemployment Rate Holds at 3.3%

| According to the latest labour force statistics released today by the Census and Statistics Department , the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.3% in March - May 2008, same as that in February - April 2008. |

Hong Kong's Retail Sales Rise 18.7% in April

| The volume of sales of miscellaneous consumer durable goods decreased by 4.3% in April 2008 compared with a year earlier. |
|
| The value of total retail sales in April 2008, provisionally estimated at $22.8 billion, increased by 18.7% over a year earlier. After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, the volume of total retail sales increased by 11.6% in April 2008 over a year earlier. |
