The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$133.2 billion at the end of December 2006 (end-November 2006: US$132.7 billion).

Including unsettled forward contracts, the foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong at the end of December 2006 also stood at US$133.2 billion (end-November 2006: US$132.7 billion).

Hong Kong is the world''s eighth largest holder of foreign currency reserves, after Mainland China, Japan, Russia, Taiwan, Korea, India and Singapore.

The total foreign currency reserve assets of US$133.2 billion represent over six times the currency in circulation or about 35% of Hong Kong dollar M3.
